Overall Recap:
Matt did a great job of summing up some thoughts and accounts. Whammer Central has decided to outline the outcome from a good/bad perspective.
CRAB
Good Idea: CrabFest
Bad Idea: Crab in my bed, Crab in Jack’s bed, Crab in my shower, Crab all over the place, Crab bits on the deck, Crab all over the golf course when the crows got at it, The golf suite smelling like crab the whole weekend.
Good Idea: Mr. Koskenmaki going and getting remaining crabs and feasting on them in bunker bar.
GOLF
Good Idea: Vintage Day. Vintage Day at Bandon Dunes, just seemed to fit
Bad Idea: Tee Times could have been earlier to give us more afternoon time for naps.
Good Idea: Caddies that were cool and didn’t cause a lot of ruckus
Bad Idea: Caddies like Berkley that will drink all of your liquor, or caddies like my Sherpa-dude who looked like he was 80 years old and wouldn’t stop the jibber jabber... 3 inches to the left, 3 inches to the left, 3 inches to the left, 3 inches to the left,... I want to kill you.
Good Idea: Putting contest, horse-race format, easy to understand, fun format, everyone has a chance
Bad Idea: Drawing partners all three days, (first day is fine, good ice-breaker)
Good Idea: Calling-off the draw partner concept and setting up the foursomes on day 2
Bad Idea: Not giving points for individual achievement.
Good Idea: KP and Long Drive cards, easy way to keep track of points
Good Idea: Predicto
BEER/BOOZE
Good Idea: Buying 14 cases of beer ahead of time and stocking the suites. Total cost: $240.
Bad Idea: Ordering beers and pizza to the suite from room service when we ran out. 24 beers 6 pizzas total cost: $300~ (Who would do that?)
Bad Idea: Buffalo only drinking Oregon beer as a statement of global responsibility. Who are you..Think Globally- Drink Smoke Get Roaring Drunk Locally., What cause is this, and where do I sign up?. Oh wait, I’d have to move to Colorado to drink Coorslight.
Good Idea: Baileys, the bigger, the better
Bad Idea: Stocking a full bar, no one really drank that much liquor, except what they brought.
Good Idea: Leaderboard
Bad Idea: Putting Contest sign, Any signage that you have to lug around. Easier to travel light.
MISC
Good Idea: Getting Sick for an entire month before the whammer so you are as strong as an ox.
Bad Idea: Getting Sick at the whammer and hanging out in the suite watching Home Improvement (sorry Jack).
Good Idea: The Grove: lots of room~ good spot for poker and hanging out.
Bad Idea: The Grove: No hot water, No Maid Service, No Firepit Gas
Good Idea: Find out the combo to the locked wood gate at McKees’. I have it if anyone needs it, although it cost me $20 and has nothing to do with a code.
Bad Idea: Don’t turn on the gas valve at the top (use the bottom valve) for the firepit at the Grove. The top valve is water and will put out your fire.
Good Idea: Poker tournament. It seemed to work well.
Bad Idea: During poker... if you are drunk or can’t understand what’s going on to the point where someone else is puppet master of your brain, then you must withdraw or can be voted out of game after a warning by the table. There was more than one offender at different times.
Good Idea: the pass-out bluff, all original move introduced
Good Idea: Inviting Hank Hickox to breakfast, he styled, gave us a little respectability.
Bad Idea: Inviting anyone to breakfast. Too much to worry about.
Good Idea: Buried Treasure on the golf course.
Bad Idea: No one knows where it is. The Shovel was no help. Jack may be able to find it... We’ll see
Good Idea: Having reservations for breakfast and dinner.
Bad Idea: Planning mealtimes, people eat when they want. Cancelled most reservations.
Good Idea: Giving a lot of points to toasts
Bad Idea: Giving a lot of points to toasts
Bad Idea: Asshole~ No one wants to win asshole, and no one wants any asshole to get points... catch22. Funny idea, but didn’t work. It was amusing to be whammer central and hear the various nominations come in.
Those are a few quick thoughts, I am sure there would be more if I spent more time thinking about the trip, oh wait, that’s all I have done. All in all, everyone had a great time. I think there were some of you who disappeared a bit more than you needed to and some of you who didn’t when you probably should have. I look at everything as a success and look forward to next year. If you are like me, then you have Post Whammer Stress Disorder or are just plain tired and hungover. Either way, I thank you for your participation and look forward to seeing you next year. The countdown has begun on the blog. The only knowns/for sures/whammer-musts are: A) Trevor is now responsible for giving the opening, welcome toast and an account of one year with the whammer. And B) If we go back to Bandon, then we find that treasure. If we go somewhere else, we leave new treasure. The Where, When, and How will be decided this summer and The blog will be moving to a new location...... Yes, it is time to announce THEWHAMMER.com (domain has been secured, thank you Mr. Kennedy). See you in 2009.
Whammer Central Out.
